"I feel that there must be some convergence among nations on the idea of what the primary objective of development and progress should be - something Gross National Happiness seeks to bring about".

His Majesty to confer Dakyen on PM today
9 April, 2008 - His Majesty the King will confer Dakyen on the Prime Minister of Bhutan’s first democratically elected government, Jigmi Yoezer Thinley, at the Throne Room in Tashichhodzong today.

According to the cabinet secretariat, after receiving the ceremonial scarf from His Majesty, formerly endorsing him as the first Prime Minister, Jigmi Thinley will proceed to Goenkhang to offer Nyendar and light a thousand butter lamps. Before proceeding to the Prime Minister’s office in a chipdrel procession, Jigmi Thinley will be escorted to the Gyalyong Tshogkhang, where he will be presented a Guard of Honour by the Royal Bhutan Police.

Cabinet secretary Dasho Sherab Tenzin said that offering of Tashi Khadar by well-wishers in the Prime Minister’s office will start from 12.45 pm. “There will be no gifts in the form of cash or kind and celebrations,” Dasho Sherab Tenzin told Kuensel. “One can only offer khadar (scarf) according to the 86th resolution of the National Assembly.”

About 150 Druk Phuensum Tshogpa members and key supporters unanimously endorsed the nomination of the party president, Jigmi Y Thinley, as the Prime Minister of the newly elected DPT government, at a party meeting on April 5. Twelve nominations were also endorsed to fill the posts of 10 ministers, the Speaker and the deputy Speaker. The list of nominations was submitted to His Majesty this week.
