Since 1980, over the 500 full-time volunteers TVS has recruited and trained, an average between 40-50% have remained working with NGOs on a long-term basis. Key NGO leaders in all regions, with the exception of the south, contain a high proportion of former volunteers
It can also be said that TVS volunteers have played a significant role in bringing NGOs closer together, and in facilitating the establishment of various coordinating bodies, through their own close relationships and networking. Another benefit of the Volunteer Program is that it has helped many of newly-established small NGOs to get off the ground, by providing them full-time workers while they have very limited resources.
In 2004 the Collaborating to Promote the Youth and Young Activists in Mekong Region Program was established with concerns of the impacts from globalization in the Mekong countries. The development of the communication technologies has linked the problems from a country to another in many dimensions (political, economical, social and cultural), especially concerning the neighboring countries. Nevertheless globalization also allowed a better communication between NGOs and peoples movement on the regional level. Learning exchange included the resolution approach both national and regional level in different aspects. Therefore TVS Regional Program was build on the hope of linking up grass root organizations in the Mekong River region to be able to face the problems together.
